Swedish Massage, also referred to as the “Western” or “Classic” style of massage, is a system of manual manipulations applied to the soft tissues (i.e. skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia) where each massage stroke builds upon the effects of the previous stroke to help calm the nervous system thereby relieving stress and anxiety, increase circulation, reduce muscle spasm, and alleviate muscular aches. A typical 60-minute Swedish Massage treatment applies the massage techniques to the muscles of the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, hips, legs, and feet using pressure adjusted to each client’s preference to reduce muscle tension and promote relaxation.
Other areas, such as the face, cranial, and abdominal muscles can receive massage as well, however, there is a limit to the amount of quality work that can be accomplished within a typical 60-minute session. A more detailed Swedish Massage treatment plan will necessitate a longer session time. The massage routines listed below can be added to your session by request. Each treatment routine below will add at least 15-minutes to your session. Alternatively, a session can be individually tailored for you that focuses on your priority areas and fits within a 60-minute time frame.
Include Massage of the Facial and Scalp muscles (add 15 minutes): Gentle massage of the facial muscles, which reflect mood and emotions, can stimulate the nervous system in a manner that may help with relaxation and pain control.
Include Massage of the Abdominal Muscles: (15 minutes): Carefully applied massage to the abdominal muscles creates a soothing vector for reducing anxiety and inducing a state of calm and relaxation. It is also beneficial for individuals who regularly engage in strenuous sports activities and exercise. Certain health and medical conditions may locally contraindicate the application of abdominal massage.
